Macduff's Castle

Situated on the Fife Coastal Path, Macduff's Castle is a ruined castle near East Wemyss associated with the Macduff Earls of Fife, the most powerful family in Fife in the middle ages. The present ruins are the remains of the home of the Wemyss family, who lived there from the 14th century, and their successors in the 16th century.

Burntisland

A visit to the beautiful coastal town of Burntisland makes for a great family day out. Head to the seafront where you'll find two activation panel - one is close to the Beacon Leisure Centre, on the path between the beach and the skate park, and the other is near the play park at the east end of the Links. 

Lindores Abbey Distillery

Did you know that Lindores is the site of the first recorded written evidence of whisky distillation back in 1494?

Take a trip to historic Lindores Abbey to follow the trail - you'll be challenged to distil as many casks of whisky as possible before the time runs out! The activation panel is in the ruins of Lindores Abbey, next to the Distillery, and you'll learn the distilling process the Monks would have followed hundreds of years ago.

Ravenscraig Castle

Did you know the castle is considered to be one of the first in Scotland to be built to withstand cannon fire? With a stunning scenic backdrop, why not visit this free attraction and let the kids try their hand at loading a cannon and firing at pirate boats in the Forth. Ravenscraig park is also a great family attraction, where you can enjoy hours of fun!

Markinch Church

You'll find the target at the back of the church. You are free to walk all the way round! 

Markinch was once the ancient capital of Fife and ruled by the MacDuff Earls of Fife. King James I ordered everyone over the age of 12 to practice archery. You can still see the arrow sharpening marks on the stone work behind the church! This gives you a wee clue to the virtual reality experience at this location!

Lochore Castle

As you enter Lochore Meadows, Lochore Castle is situated on the left and the panel is just in front of the castle.

Also known as Inchgall Castle, once upon a time Lochore Castle stood on an island and was the fortress home of the Lochore family. It was described as one of the strongest castles in Fife in the 16th Century. The castle is set within Lochore Meadows, Fife's most popular free attraction, known locally as the 'Meedies', so why not make a day of it.

Falkland Estate

There are 5 activation panels throughout the Estate. Check the Interpretation panel by the main car park for details. 

Pack your walking boots and retrace royal footsteps on this fascinating and historic land. Enjoy acres of beautiful counryside and woodlands of Falkland Estate and enjoy five different augmented reality experiences at this location all inspired by nature. There's also a cafe on-site for when the kids get peckish.

Falkland Palace

The panel can be found inside the main gates, so please note this one can only be accessed during opening hours

Falkland Palace was a favourite hunting ground of Mary Queen of Scots and is home to the UK's oldest real tennis court. Although you need to pay to visit the Palace and gardens, you can enjoy the Augmented Reality experience during opening hours for free, as it's located just inside the main gates. The village of Falkland, which is an Outlander film location, is delightful to visit and you can explore the charming streets, gift shops or enjoy a cuppa in one of the cafes. PLEASE NOTE although the Palace is currently closed, but the gardens are open and you can still enjoy the augmented reality experience.

Aberdour Castle

The panel can be located on the grass next to the castle car park. 

The splendid ruin of Aberdour Castle was once the luxurious Renaissance home and pleasure gardens of Scotland's most powerful man. It's also among the oldest standing masonry castles in Scotland and was used in the filming of Outlander. The augmented reality experience can be enjoyed without accessing the castle, which is owned by Historic Environment Scotland.

Dunfermline Abbey

Dunfermline is Scotland's newest city but it has a long and very interesting past. Dunfermline Abbey has a very important place in Scotland's history and many of the country’s medieval kings and queens ruled from Dunfermline – and were buried in grand Dunfermline Abbey, including Robert The Bruce, Scotland’s Warrior King - if you look up you will see his name carved in stone.

You will find the activation panel in Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries which is a wonderful place to visit. It's packed with interesting displays which tell the story of Dunfermline and the galleries have all sorts of exhbitions throughout the year.

St Andrews Cathedral

Our newest location is at St Andrews Cathedral - once the largest church in Scotland and the headquarters of the Scottish church. The cathedral is close to the sea and if you climb St Rules tower you'll get great views over St Andrews and beyond. Originally, the only way to get to the top was to climb ladders between wooden floors inside the tower but thankfully a stone staircase was added in the 18th century!

When you scan the activation panel you'll be challenged to do some building.
