10 ideas for family days out in Fife this Summer

Here are a few ideas for some great family days out in Fife:

1. Get up close with the animals

Visit the Scottish Deer Centre & Wildlife Centre where kids can spend the day feeding the deer, spotting wild animals, watching the bird of prey display and burning off loads of energy. It's a great day out and the park is currently operating a 'pay as you please' system. Pack a picnic, eat in the on-site cafe or pick up a yummy crepe from the Crepe Shack.

2. Enjoy a fun history lesson

For a bit of history, why not visit Scotland's once ancient capital and now Scotland's newest city! Did you know Dunfermline Abbey, is the burial place of King Robert the Bruce? Kids can pick up a Heritage Past-Port which covers the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, Dunfermline Abbey as well as Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Museum. Then why not spend a fun afternoon in Pittencrieff Park, or ‘The Glen’ as it’s commonly known by locals spotting squirrels and the resident peacocks.

3. Take the kids berry picking

There are loads of great places in Fife including Cairnie Mega Maze and Fruit Farm and Blacketyside Farm, where the kids will also love to play, and Allanhill and Pittormie Fruit Farm.

4. Set sail on a boat trip

Take a boat trip to either the Isle of May or Inchcolm Island. Both offer a fantastic day out and kids will love spotting the seals and wildlife, including the very cute puffins!!

5. Spend the day in St Andrews

Lots to keep the kids amused in St Andrews – visit the castle and explore the bottle dungeon, climb St Rule’s Tower, stop off at the museum or go putting on the Himalayas!

6. Visit the NEW Vikings Exhibition

Don’t miss 'Heroes of the Vikings World' exhibition at Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries. Sure to keep the kids entertained for a few hours. If the kids get peckish, head to the cafe which has stunning views across to the Abbey.  

7. Grab a net and go rock pooling

Roome Bay Crail has been named one of the best places in the UK for rock pooling! So, pick up a net and see what you can catch!

8. Enjoy all the fun of the Fair

Young kids and teenagers will love a visit to the shows at Burntisland for all the fun of the fair! They will be there until 21st Aug. There’s also a lovely park and beach to walk along too! For the best ice-cream, head to Novelli's.

9. Petrol head fun

For those who love cars, Knockhill Racing Circuit, Scotland’s national motorsport centre is a great day out. You can also take the family to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, both are near Dunfermline.

10. Enjoy Fife's natural beauty and get some fresh air

Nothing beats a walk and getting fresh air. Why not tackle some of the 117 mile long Fife Coastal Path? Pack a picnic and stop off at one of the many scenic spots along the way.  Tentsmuir is always a favourite where kids will love exploring the sand dunes, spotting seals and wildlife and there’s also a great bbq area.
