After spending six years learning his craft in Arbroath, Jamie moved to St Andrews joining the Rocca restaurant as Head Chef for four years. In 2014, Jamie took part in BBC MasterChef: The Professionals which saw his culinary skills tested to the limit. Demonstrating his creativity and skill, Jamie’s final task consisted of serving a three course meal for judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace. As a result, Jamie was crowned the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2014.
Since MasterChef, Jamie has been working on his own personal projects with a series of pop-up restaurants and guest chefs around Scotland, as well as appearances at food festivals throughout the summer of 2015.
In March 2016, Jamie and his wife Kelly opened their first restaurant, The Newport, which is set in the picturesque village of Newport on Tay by the River Tay. Almost fully booked every night since day one, the restaurant has wowed diners both local and from afar. Those lucky enough to get a table have been treated to a wonderfully unique dining experience in beautiful surroundings with stunning views across the river. The Newport was recently awarded 2 AA Rosettes after being open for only 7 weeks, a fantastic achievement that recognizes the strength of Jamie’s cooking and the loyal team he has that work alongside him.
Jamie and his wife also now run the successful Newport Bakery. Worth a visit!
